Thank you for visiting our website!
Grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!
I am excited to be your pastor and while the effective date is officially July 1., I have boxes packed and rental truck to pick up Thursday, to get set up in the office and parsonage before and after Annual Conference next week.
I will be posting daily readings, sermons, and information about upcoming sermons so you can read ahead.
Reading today in Philemon, the first 7 verses of Paul’s letter, written as a prisoner in Rome, I ask your prayers as Paul did, as I beginning serving First UMC and Wright’s Chapel. I too, have heard of your love and faith toward Jesus Christ and I will be sharing my faith and I hope you will as well so we can be become effective by acknowledging Christ Jesus enabling others to be refreshed by you.
After sermons in July on Colossians 1:1-14. 15-28, 2:6-15, and 3:1-11, I will be preaching on these 25 verses Paul wrote to Philemon. Many have misunderstood Paul’s writings, but as we look at the context, to the times Paul’s letters were written, we need we see as this letter of Philemon reflects: Jesus’ teaching from the greatest sermon ever preached: the Sermon on the Mount.
Please come and worship on July 3, 2016 at 9:30 at First UMC or 11 AM at Wright’s Chapel for the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. This July 4th Good News is titled: “What makes a great man or woman?” The text is from Galatians 6:1-10 and a question to ponder is: “What made George Washington, William Wilberforce, Eric Liddell, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Jackie Robinson, Karol Wojtyla, and Chuck Colson great?” No doubt their greatest role model is the same as mine: Jesus Christ. Who is your role model?
I am looking forward to meet you and worship God together.

It’s not all that unusual in the Christian faith to express sympathy and compassion by preparing a country ham or a batch of biscuits or a peach cobbler.
It’s how we show folks that we care – we feed them.
Honestly, I think we do a better job communicating love with a sweet potato pie than we do with words.
I have set up a new Facebook page for daily devotions and newsworthy articles. The link is https://www.facebook.com/1stchurchpiggott/.
